There was a lot on the agenda! There were 14 people in attendance and we started at 5:40pm. We agreed that in the future we will start meetings on time at 5:40pm and not wait for people who are late. WALMART -brief discussion on what some of us did to show our concern regarding the opening of the super Walmart, press coverage (ch 22, elkhart and Goshen papers, possibly more) -an apology for monopolizing our last meeting with the topic -we might work to produce a directory to inform students about downtown shopping alternatives and lobby for student discounts LETTER -Chad wrote a letter to President Showalter that explained what Pax considered it's main issues (environment and mediation) for the term, it was passed around and signed. EARTH DAY -Chad and Leigh met with Mary Linton and Anne Berry to discuss ideas for Earth Day (it's on a reading day in April). -Likely we can get people from Merry Lea involved for the day. -Need to form a group, work with Senate on planning. FRESNO CONFERENCE -Whether to fly or drive (more people interested in flying) -Sent around a signup/show interest list -Matt will price flights -Note we need to register by Feb. 15 CLOTHING -Tara is in charge of our drive to collect used clothing from students who don't need it and/or have too much. -We plan to give the clothes to the Window and to Faith Mission -The goal is to collect 1000 items of clothing (aprox 1 per person) -We will collect items all of next week. -There will be a main box in the Union, and other boxes in the dorms and also ones for small group housing. *****Saturday at 3pm we will meet in Westlawn Lounge to make *****signs promoting the drive. -Hopefully the Record can do a small box article on the drive. -Anne will put announcements in the Communicator. MEDIATION -Janna met with Mark Chupp to discuss mediation -He said that we would not make good mediators between GC our neighbours (we are biased), though we would be good internal mediators. -There's an intensive program in Elkhart in March over a couple days that is several hundred dollars -Maybe we should find someone to do training here on campus... -Could have one more intensive training session and one more open and less intensive training session. LETTER WRITING -We will have a letter writing night after the clothing drive is over. -Issues include Columbian COs, Peace Tax -There's also a national Peace (anti-military budget) petition that students are collecting signatures for in the month of February.
