PAX Minutes for April 8, 1997

1. Report on a SEAC conference
I attended a regional Student Environmental Action Coalition conference at a
boy scout camp 50 miles south of pittsburgh along with 2 students from Bethany
and other Goshenite.  There were about fifty people there.  It was great!  For
more information read the alternative publication when it gets out.

Out of this experience I am going to make a proposal for us to choose whether
we should join SEAC.

We got into a discussion of local environmental issues and a bill to
standardize environmental regulations in the great lake states.

Bryce will contact a group called citizens first.

2. Movie Night(s)
Coming soon to a movie theater near you: PAX film fests!  Bryce and Greg are in
charge.  Email them your suggestions.

3. April 15
April 15 is Tax Day in the US (last day to mail them in) and CPT Indiana will
be doing an action/witness at the Elkhart post office with a "penny poll" in
which people get to decide whether they want their taxes going to pay for the
military, welfare, foreign aid, or what.
Jeff will check to see how PAX can participate in this witness.

4. Senator Hatfield
Is coming on April 15, Jonathan will look into getting him to talk to PAX
and/or others for supper if he is interested.

5. Earth Day
Show-up at Sunday at 2:30pm in Westlawn to work on posters for Earth Day, which
will be celebrated two weeks from today.
Thomas will look into setting up environmental programming on campus channel 14
on a continous loop.

6. Proposal for a May Term Course
I'm developing a proposal for a one hour class for this May Term to be taught
by students.  It'll be a partial survey of radical thought and tactics.  Let me
know if you have something you can teach or for more information.

7. Letter Writing
Thursday 9:30pm - midnight.  Refreshments included.  Bring any responses you
have received from past letters to share with the group.
Issues include: Palestinian Peace Process
		Worker Abuse in Nicaragua
		Shell destroying rain forest in South America

Next meeting will be April 15 at 5:40pm.  Stay tuned for a possible change if
we can meet with Hatfield or something arises due to the Tax Day CPT witness.
