PAX MINUTES Date: Tuesday, May 6 Time: 5:40pm Location: Westlawn Lounge Attendance: low Pastors For Peace Two members from Pastors for Peace will be visiting Goshen College this Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. Pastors for Peace is currently involved in collecting aid and sending it to Cuba to challenge the US embargo on that country. Members of the organization are criss-crossing the US to get supplies, and to raise awareness. They will then travel to Cuba with the aid (in violation of US law). Where to find them: Thursday 1pm-2:20: NC 13, talking to PAX 310, Modern Radical Activism, this would be a great time for anyone to have an informal conversation with them. 7:30pm: NC 19, doing a Peace Forum, with refreshments afterwards! Friday 8:15am: Rachel Goosen's History Class (US history 1945-present) 10:30am: Del Good's Accounting, Business, and Economics senior seminar An End of the Year Rummage Sale The idea is to hold one so that students can give their stuff away (or even sell it) rather than merely tossing it in the dumpster at the end of the year. Would a volunteer like to work on this? Graduate Pledge The idea of having graduates take a voluntary pledge to examine the social consequences (ie environmental, justice, etc) of any job they are offered. This idea originated at Manchester College, IN. Chad promised to look into it. Movies Night: An excellent idea that needs someone to actually coordinate it sometime soon. May turn into a movie night week. Working with on-campus worship: Someone either needs to look into this really soon, or drop it until next year. Execution of Willie Enoch on May 21 Willie Enoch will be executed on May 21 in Peoria Illinois unless he gets a stay. People expressed definite interest in going to vigil outside the prison. We will be arranging something in the upcoming weeks. Ideas for Next Year We want to do some planning for next year. That will be the focus of next week's meeting. The object is to make sure the club starts off the year well, and to make it clear that new students know what PAX (and other groups) are about (perhaps a club convo, a mailing...). And finally, we ended the meeting by all climbing a tree. We WILL have a meeting next week, same time, maybe outside if the weather is nice. Posted on May 6, 1997 by Aaron Kreider
