The Progressive Student Network(PSN) started at a Kent State conference in 1980, peaked in the late 80s, and died-off during the early 90s. It was a 'network' rather than an organization, very loosely structured, fairly regional (mid-west), and low-budget. Published a newspaper (PSNews).
