Summer 1997 To the Tune of Solidarity Forever (aka Glory Glory Hallelujah) There are two classes, those who cycle and those who don't... (*fill in your spoof of the IWW preamble here*) Cycle Power Forever When the inspiration to pedal through the pedestrian class shall run There can be no power greater anywhere beneath the sun For what propulsion force is weaker than the unaided feet of one But cycling makes us strong Refrain Pedal power forever Pedal power forever Pedal power forever For in cycling we are strong Is there aught we hold in common with the polluting automobile? Who would crush us while going fifty and would smash us with its steel Is there any honour to it this "driving behind a wheel"? No, but cycling makes us strong It is we who must gear down when the hills are steep and high It is we who go but twenty yet tis we who still must die It is we who while travelling merrily are pushed to the road side Yet cycling makes us strong They have paved untold acres that they never toiled to earn For without our taxpayer subsidies not a single axle would turn (not an ounce of oil would burn?) We can break their transport monopoly gain our freedom when we learn That cycling makes us strong It is we who hold the power greater than their oil reserves Greater than their laws of traffic magnified a thousand fold We can build a cycler's paradise on the rubble of their roads For cycling makes us strong!
