Description
Dear Sisters and Brothers,

In Iraq, the people's resistance to the U.S. war and occupation is growing stronger. Even many former U.S. diplomats and military officers now acknowledge that the war is "unwinnable." According to the latest CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll, 54% of the U.S. public believe the invasion of Iraq was a mistake, and 55% believe that the war has made the U.S. more vulnerable to terrorism.

As you know, the phony transfer of "sovereignty" from the U.S. occupation forces to the new puppet Iraqi government is scheduled for Wednesday, June 30. Protests against the war and occupation in Iraq will be held in many U.S. cities during the next week. The Progressive Workers Organizing Committee is sponsoring a demonstration on Wednesday, June 30, at 4:30 pm, at the Leland Federal Building, 1919 Smith St. in Houston. We will be demanding:

* the immediate, unconditional withdrawal of U.S. and allied forces from Iraq

* no internationalization of the Iraq occupation by U.N., N.A.T.O., or other foreign forces

* the liberation of Palestine

* an end to the war against immigrants, people of color, workers, and women here in the U.S.

The demonstration has been endorsed by Socialist Labor Party--Houston, International Socialist Organization, Houston Peace Forum, Deconstruction Crew, Houston ANSWER, and Worldwide Movement for Justice and Peace. The protest will be held regardless of weather conditions, so if it is raining next Wednesday afternoon, just bring an umbrella. Please contact us if you would like to endorse the demonstration or receive more information. We look forward to seeing you on June 30.
