You Do? Organize a demonstration at your local store\, create street theat

day to the headquarters\, deliver an anti-award or letter signed by your c

a busy city center\, organize a call in and many more idea. The opportunit

**************\n\nBackground\n\nTwo years of investigative research has re
vealed a direct link between Victorias Secret catalogs and the destructio
n of Endangered Forests in the Canadian Boreal\, the third largest forest
wilderness in the world. Victoria s Secrets paper usage is contributing
to the demise of threatened mountain and woodland caribou herds in places
like the Alberta foothills. Over twelve times the size of California\, the
Canadian Boreal accounts for one quarter of the Earths remaining intact
forests and is a critical regulator of our global climate. Energy for the
campaign is building across the United States and in Canada because it is
simply outrageous that catalogs are being made from this global treasure.\
n\nThe Forests of the Southern United States are also endangered by Victor
ias Secret. The south is home to incredibly diverse natural forests and t
he richest temperate freshwater ecosystem in the world\, yet 6 million acr
es of the South's forests are logged every year\, primarily to make paper
that ends up with companies like Victorias Secret. The paper industry is
driving the destruction of Southern US forests and the conversion of natur
al forests to intensively managed tree farms.\n\nWe are calling on Victori
a's Secret to:\n\nEnd purchases from any company that is not identifying a
nd halting logging in Endangered Forests in the Canadian Boreal\;\n\nMaxim
ize post-consumer recycled fiber in catalogs (achieve 50% post-consumer re
cycled in five years)\;\n\nEnsure that all suppliers are shifting to Fores
t Stewardship Council certification\;\n\nEnd the use of any forest product
s sourced from other endangered forests\, like key areas of the Southern U
.S.\n\nWe need your help to send a strong message to Victorias Secret to
stop causing the destruction of endangered forests. \n\nGo to the www.Vict
oriasDirtySecret.net. To send a letter to the CEO of the Limited Brands\,
Victorias Secret parent company\, click on the take action button.\n\n \n

DESCRIPTION:The establishment of regional autonomous governments - Juntas d

ment of Zapatismo. The Juntas are in the process of consolidating politica

undations of community development - health care\, education and economic
development. Delegates will learn firsthand about the construction of the
Juntas and ways that the international community can show solidarity with
their development strategies. This help is more urgent than ever as econom
ic conditions in the region worsen. The situation is particularly difficul

he festival movement grew out of the ashes of the Second World War\, when
thousands of youth and students assembled in Prague\, Czechoslovakia in 19
48 to proclaim that the youth would never again allow the horrors of fasci

learn about the history and particular struggles of the host country and r
egion. This summer in Caracas we will have the chance to learn about the a
chievements and victories of the Venezuelan people\, who have stood up to
US economic and political attacks and intervention to fight for their soci
al and economic rights. We will have a chance to express our solidarity wi
th the Venezuelan youth and people in their struggle for self determinatio

\nDelegates will participate in: \n\nExchanges Between Delegations \n\nArt
  Exhibitions \n\nWorkshops \n\nPanel Discussions \n\nIntramural Sports Act

... \n\nThe body organizing the US delegation to the Festival is called th
e US National Preparatory Committee (USNPC). The USNPC is composed of doze
ns of progressive youth and student organizations from around the country.
The USNPC wishes to bring a broad\, diverse delegation to the festival to
reflect the richness of cultures and experiences that exist among our you
th. We invite young workers\, artists\, religious youth\, athletes\, music

jumpstartford.com. \n\n'Mr. Ford\, you and your company have a huge stake
in keeping this war going and in keeping the oil flowingTo what lengths w
ill companies like yours go to increase your bottom line? Mr. Ford\, are y
ou willing to have the blood of more fine young Americans on your hands?'\
n\n Cindy Sheehan\, in a letter to CEO Bill Ford Jr.\,\n\nTHE STAKES COUL
DN'T BE HIGHER\n\nWith record gas prices\, the devastation of Hurricane Ka
trina\, the Arctic melting faster than ever before\, even more deaths in I
raq and the planet on the edge of climatic collapse we can't afford to wai
t any longer to declare our independence from oil. It's time that we let F

driving this chaos and destruction.\n\nSign up Now at www.jumpstartford.co
m\n\n\nWhy Ford?\nOur dependence on oil endangers our environment\, our he
alth\, our economy\, and fuels human rights abuses around the world. Autom
obiles are the single largest consumer of oil in the North America\; if we
want kick the oil habit\, demanding sustainable\, petroleum-free transpor
tation is a good place to start. Among automakers\, Ford is the worst acto
 r. Ford has the worst fleetwide fuel efficiency and the highest average ve
hicle greenhouse gas emissions of major U.S. automakers.\n \nThis year we
are happy to be able to provide grassroots activists with even more traini
ngs and resources than ever before. It couldn't be easier or more importan
t for you to adopt a dealer today.\n\nAbout the Day of Action:\nWe are pla
nning to have over 100 actions taking place in Canada\, U.S. UK and others
. The day will highlight the connections to human rights\, alternative sol
utions\, climate change\, air pollution and addressing Ford's poor fuel ra
ting. Different groups will participate in street theater\, press confere
nces\, adopt-a-ford dealer\, having conversation etc on the impacts of oil
to our ecosystem and future. This day of action will also connect with t
he tenth anniversary of the assissination of Ken Saro Wiwa\, a Nigerian ac
tivist who was murdered by Shell Corp. So there is a lot opportunities to
collaborate and to build further awareness on the ecological u-turn from o
il dependence. For more info\, contact cleancars@globalexchange.org or 1-
800-497-1994.\n\nTwo of the things you can do to participate is to adopt-a
-dealership and organize a demo or if you are a campus activist you can wo
rk on passing a green fleets resolution. To adopt a dealer download a pack

DESCRIPTION: Approximately 395 million catalogs are mailed by Victoria's Se
cret each year--that's more than one million a day! Most of these catalogs
end up in the trash or at best in the recycling bin--often without even b
eing looked at. Paper for these catalogs is destroying Endangered Forests
like the great northern Boreal Forest of Canada. \n\n Canadas Boreal Fore
st is an area over 12 times the size of California\, representing 25 perce
nt of the worlds remaining intact forest. This globally significant fores
t is one of the largest carbon sinks in the world\, making it vital to reg
ulating our changing climate. Its lakes\, rivers and streams are also the
largest freshwater system on Earth. For more information\, go to the Fores
tEthics Boreal page .\n\n Despite its global importance\, over two acres
of the Boreal are being logged every minute\, mostly through clearcutting.
The tragic part is that the Boreal is being clearcut to make disposable i
tems like catalogs for companies like Victorias Secret\, which gets at le
ast 25% of the paper for its catalogs from the Boreal Forest. Other materi
als for Victorias Secret products comes from other Endangered Forests--li
ke their paper bags\, which are made from paper coming out of the Southeas
t United States. \n\n Because of its immense buying power\, Victoria's Sec
ret is in a position to help change the catalog industry toward sustainabl
e paper purchasing. Unfortunately\, the company has refused to make such c
ommitments to protect our Endangered Forests. So were calling for an Inte

DESCRIPTION:The Design Science Lab offers a unique opportunity to develop s
olutions to global and local problems. It features hands-on training exper
ience in complex problem solving employing an approach pioneered by Buckmi
nster Fuller and others called comprehensive anticipatory design science.
\n\nUsing the United Nations Millennium Development Goals as a framework f
or exploring key interrelated global crises\, the 10-day lab involves part
icipants in the development of real-world solutions to the major challenge
s facing the planet. Using present day technology and known resources part
icipants develop affordable solutions to local\, regional and global probl
ems. Working in teams\, participants acquire a shared language and set of
perceptual tools for complex-problem solving\, enabling them to return to
their communities equipped to take on their regions' most pressing concern
s.\n\nAt its core\, the Design Science Lab recognizes the profound contrib
ution 'ordinary' citizens can make toward solving our most pressing local\
, regional and global problems. Through direct experience\, participants c
ome to understand that individual initiative can and indeed must make a di
fference in creating a better world.\n\nA public presentation by Lab parti

DESCRIPTION:Venue Change: Fifth Annual International Al-Awda Convention - U
niting for the Return\n\nNEW VENUE: Embassy Suites Hotel - Anaheim South\,
  11767 Harbor Boulevard\, Garden Grove\, CA 92840\n\nDATE: May 25-27\, 200
7\n\nThe host committee of the Fifth Annual International Al-Awda Conventi
on announces a change in venue. The convention will now be held at Embassy
  Suites Hotel - Anaheim South\, 11767 Harbor Boulevard\, Garden Grove\, CA
92840. The convention will take place on the May 25-27 memorial day week-
end. \n\nThe date of the convention commemorates the Nakba\, the 59th year
since the \\'State of Israel\\' was declared on stolen Palestinian land\,
and which led to the Zionist occupation of all of Palestine.\n\nThe commu
nity-based local host committee currently includes the Southern California
chapters of Al-Awda (Al-Awda Riverside\, Los Angeles and San Diego)\, Stu
dents for Justice in Palestine at UCR\, The Palestinian American Women\\'s
Association\, The Free Palestine Alliance\, The National Council of Arab
Americans\, The Middle East Cultural and Information Center\, The Muslim S
tudents Association at Palomar College\, The Muslim Students Association a
t UCSD\, Students for Justice in Palestine at UCLA\, The Muslim Students U
nion at UCR\, The Arab Community Center of the Inland Empire\, Campaign to
End Israeli Apartheid - Southern California\, Students for International
Knowledge at CSUSB\, and The Muslim Students Association at CSUSB.\n\nTHE
PROGRAM\n\nThe Fifth Annual International Al-Awda Convention promises to b
e an amazing three-day event from speakers and workshops\, film showings\,
to a Palestine Cultural Dinner Event. The opening will be held on the eve
ning of Friday 25 May and include a moving event at which survivors of the
Nakba\, the great catastrophe\, share their recollections of their first-
hand experience in 1948.\n\nOn Saturday May 26\, the convention will devot
e itself to political assessments\, and to developing the ongoing work of
organizing right to return campaigns such as refugee support\, media work\
, student\, art/culture\, etc.\, in addition to our recruitment and outrea
ch projects.\n\nOn Sunday May 27\, the convention will arrive at its resol
utions based on the concrete recommendations of the various workshops.\n\n
The Saturday evening Palestinian Cultural Dinner Event will include keynot
e addresses as well as music by world-renowned maestro Dr. Nabil Azzam\, p
oetry readings and more. A Naji el-Ali exhibition will also be on display
in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of his assassination. The cartoon
s for this exhibit were kindly provided by Khalid el-Ali\, his son. \n\nAm
ong the confirmed convention speakers are:\nDr. Jamal Zahalka\, New Leader
  of Balad (National Democratic Assembly\, al-Tajamu\\' al-Watani al-Dimuqr
ati) who will discuss the current situation of Palestinians living in the
areas of their country occupied in 1948 in the context of the persecution
of Dr. Azmi Bishara\, former leader of Balad.\nDr. Naseer Aruri\, former m
ember of The Palestine National Council.\nLeila Al-Arian\, journalist\, da
ughter of political prisoner Sami Al-Arian.\nElias Rashmawi\, National Coo
rdinator National Council of Arab Americans.\n\nWHY VENUE CHANGE\n\nThe ho
st committee decided to move the convention from the University of Califor
nia at Riverside to the Embassy Suites Hotel - Anaheim South when new unac
ceptable conditions were demanded by certain UCR administrators well after
they had approved the venue. For example\, the administrators levied new
administrative\, security and other fees in the thousands of dollars which
the hosts of the convention at UCR viz. the Students for Justice in Pales
tine would be expected to pay. Such prohibitive fees are highly unusual an
d have almost certainly never before been levied at UCR on any other stude
nt group. Additionally\, the university administrators insisted that Zioni
sts be allowed to attend the convention\, and that they film the conventio
n and its participants\, a remarkable attempt at intimidation.\n\nAll thes
e new conditions and unreasonable demands were considered by the host comm
ittee as an attempt to shut down the Fifth Annual International Al-Awda Co
nvention. Hence\, the committee decided to move the convention to the Emba
 ssy Suites Hotel - Anaheim South\, 11767 Harbor Boulevard\, Garden Grove\,
CA 92840 - The committee felt that this private venue would provide a saf
er and more secure environment for our community and convention attendees.
\n\nINVITATION\n\nWe urge all Al-Awda members\, groups and individuals who
support our goals join us in our landmark Fifth Annual International Conv
ention. It is extremely important to show those trying to silence us that
they will not succeed. The convention is a superlative forum for right to
return activists to listen to expert presentations and to share their own
thoughts on how they would like to see our collective efforts and campaign
s develop for the implementation of Palestinian refugee rights. With your
support\, Al-Awda\\'s Fifth International Convention\, like its predecesso
rs\, will be one of the largest annual gatherings of Palestinian Arab acti
vists and their supporters Geographical Scope: International
