DESCRIPTION:The Oral History Master of Arts\, Columbia Center for Oral Hist
 ory\, the Institute for Social and Economic Research and Policy\, and the 
 Human Rights Institute will host Ayelet Waldman\, attorney and author of R
 ed Hook Road and Bad Mother: A Chronicle of Maternal Crimes\, Minor Calami
 ties\, and Occasional Moments of Grace and Robin Levi\, human rights direc
 tor of the California-based non-profit Justice Now\, to discuss their late
 st book Inside This Place\, Not of It: Narratives from Women\\'s Prisons i
 n the United States. The talk is part of the Oral History Seminar Series.\
 n\n Waldman and Levi will discuss and read from their new book\, which is 
 an extraordinary account of women’s lives both inside and out of prison 
 in their own voices and reveals egregious human rights violations within w
 omen’s prisons in the United States.\n\nThere will also be a presentatio
 n from faculty and alumni about the Oral History Master of Arts (OHMA)\, a
  multi-disciplinary program that utilizes theoretical approaches across th

 n \n\nMorning Keynote: Yalonda Sinde \n\nIn 1993 Yalonda Sinde helped spea
 rhead the Community Coalition for Environmental Justice (CCEJ)\, a grassro
 ots organization in Seattle that gained national recognition for eliminati
 ng two major sources of air pollution and mobilizing low income communitie
 s and communities of color to work together to achieve justice and equalit
 y.  The organization also helped form the first people of color and indige
 nous people northwest environmental justice network.   \n\nYalonda is curr
 ently the Executive Director of the Association of Environmental Health Ac
 ademic Programs\, an organization that works to improve the health of peop
 le and the planet by creating and supporting environmental health academic
  programs. \n\n \nLunchtime Playnote: The New Wilderness Project \n\nThe N
 ew Wilderness Project playnote invites participants on a journey where the
 y will be entertained\; where they will engage with each other\; and conne
 ct with diversity\, leadership and equity through the lens of creative exp
 ression. This unique approach uses original music and spoken word poetry c
 horeographed to immersive video and imagery. The poignant themes of each c
 reative piece are woven together by insightful commentary from the present
 ers and shared experience from the participants to create a dramatic and m
 oving presentation of the issues and opportunities around stewardship\, le
 adership\, the human connection to nature and each other\, and embracing d
