DESCRIPTION:Theme\n\nEach year\, the conference strives to connect both ind
ividuals and communities with resources that will help to enrich lives acr
oss the Midwest. In hosting the 2012 MBLGTACC\, Iowa State University acce
pts the challenge and privilege of enhancing grassroots LGBTQIA activism t
hrough this year’s conference theme: The Butterfly Effect: Evolution to
Revolution. We have developed the theme from chaos theory\, in which a but
terfly can flap its wings and cause ripples of change around the world. Si
milarly\, each of our socially just and positive actions work together lea
ding to a more equitable world. With a focus on LGBTQIA history & identiti
es\, as well as the impact of our multiple identities\, MBLGTACC 2012 will
provide impetus to expand human potential and transform our communities.
\n\nPillars\n\nWe intend to create an environment that will foster persona
l growth and development in the areas of:\nHistory: Understand how past an
d current socio-political movements have impacted LGBTQIA communities and
the larger society to better inform our future.\nIdentity: Explore the LGB
TQIA spectrum and examine the personal and political significance of ident
ity and inclusion.\nIndividual Intersections: Create awareness of intersec
tions between LGBTQIA identities and other social identities.\nSocially-Ju
st Transformation/Action: Encourage participants to take collaborative act
ion at the individual\, group\, and/or institutional levels to create soci
al change that promotes equity for all.\n\n\nConference Check-In\n\nConfer
ence check-in will begin at 12:00pm on Friday\, February 10\, 2012 in the

DESCRIPTION:REDISCOVERY. Our central theme\, rediscovery\, reflects our bel
ief that we must challenge ourselves to re-examine the meaning of Asian Am
erican\, for ourselves and for our community. Rediscovery asks us to build
a new framework with which to think about Asian Americans in the landscap
e of 21st century America. In doing so\, our hope is that our programming
provokes critical thought and analysis of the contemporary plight of Asian
Americans.\n\nRENAISSANCE. At its core\, the notion of rebirth and reinve
ntion epitomizes our notion of renaissance. From Asian American YouTube ce
lebrities to rising stars in the political arena\, Asian Americans are beg
inning to challenge conventional stereotypes that defined our past\, locat
e our present\, and write our future.\n\nREVOLUTION. The Civil Rights Move
ment started with a dream\, that things could be different\, that change w
as possible. In this context\, we need to ask ourselves what does an Asian
American movement look like? What change are we fighting for? At the hear
t of revolution is the understanding that there could be a new reality\, a
better one\, and that people together can unite to bring it about. Geogr

DESCRIPTION:We\, the General Assembly of Saint Louis\, in the spirit of sol
idarity call upon our brothers and sisters in occupied spaces across the c
ountry to join us in forming the Midwest Regional Summit. We feel that it
is time for us to create new spaces to connect in\; new ways to share know
 ledge\, experience\, resources\, and to express our solidarity.\n\n\nSt Lo
uis is centrally located and has the space available to host an event of t
his size. We invite you to bring the spirit and culture of your occupation
into a Midwest General Assembly. We feel that connecting with each other
is a vital step in elevating our movement to the next level.\n\nNo single
occupation can take on a task of this size alone. We encourage you to part
icipate in the planning and execution of this event. There is a detailed e
xecution plan attached directly following this invitation.\n\nPlease join
us on March 15th\, 2012 at 7pm CST under the Gateway Arch for the first me
eting of the Midwest General Assembly! We have chosen this site as our fir
st meeting spot as it symbolizes much of what we are fighting for. The sit
e on which it now stands used to be low income and working family housing.
It was taken from these families in order to build this monument. We woul
d like to meet there and propose that we rename this monument as the Gatew
ay to Freedom!\n\nThe conference will last from March 15th-18th. During th
is time we will be commemorating the 6 month anniversary of the Occupy Mov
ement with direct action. Additionally\, our objectives for this gathering
are to:\n Establish regional communication avenues to organize action and
the sharing of resources\n Share best practices and learn from each other
on how we can be more effective in our individual occupations\n Establish
a Midwest General Assembly that any city in our region can call on moving
forward\n Determine how we communicate and act in solidarity both regiona
lly and nationally\n\nPlease review this proposal and bring this invitatio
n to your General Assembly for consideration and approval. Please state yo
ur interest in participating by 12/20/2011. In a time when our solidarity
is being tested on every front\, we must stand together to show the world
that the people united will NEVER be defeated.\n\nFor all questions and co
rrespondence (including stating interest in participating!!) please contac
t us at:: occupythemidwest@gmail.com or find us on facebook at occupy the
