Emergency Contraception Over-the-Counter Day of Action
Saturday, December 7
12:30-3:00 PM
Eastern Market & Union Station
RSVP: Aimee Boone,

Join us for the Emergency Contraception Over the Counter (EC OTC) Day of Action on Saturday, December 7th! Our campus groups across the country will be working together to collect petition signatures on this day to increase the impact of our campaign; reach their campus goals for signatures; and, of course, educate women and girls about emergency contraception. We'll also be doing local petitioning events with our interns and volunteers to collect even MORE signatures!

There are many, many reasons why this day, and this petition drive is so important:
> EC could cut in half the number of unintended pregnancies in this country each year.
> EC could reduce the number of abortions by 800,000 each year in the U.S. alone.
> Only 1 in 5 women know about EC, according to a recent Kaiser Family Foundation survey.
> Doctors and pharmacists are allowed to "opt out" of prescribing and dispensing EC if they choose, making access difficult and even impossible for many women. Wal-Mart, increasingly the only pharmacy in rural areas, does not dispense EC as a matter of corporate policy.
> EC is 95% effective if taken within the first 24 hours and is statistically safer than aspirin.

We need this important drug to be made available over the counter NOW to be able to fully control our reproductive lives. You can attend our local petitioning events here in the DC area from 12:30 to 3:00 at the Eastern Market and at a holiday bazaar in Union Station. We will provide petitions, fact sheets, stickers, and talking points on EC! If you can attend, please e-mail Aimee Boone at and let her know which event you'd like to attend. We will meet in front of the Amtrak ticket counter at Union Station and at the top of the Metro stop at Eastern Market.

You can also help by making a special and concerted effort to table with the EC OTC petitions, attend events like concerts, plays, and sporting events with EC OTC petitions.

We will be awarding fabulous feminist prizes to the groups who collect the most petitions, both on the EC Action Day and throughout the semester, so get your petitions signed and back to us as soon as possible! Hope to see you there!
