Winston-Salem, NC, PVC Protest

Starting Date: 10-11-2006
Starting Time: 4:30pm

Winston-Salem South Target, 1040 Hanes Mall Blvd
Winston-Salem, North Carolina 27103
United States
In cooperation with the Center for Health, Environment and Justice, and the Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League, the West Forsyth Young Democrats and other groups will participate in a peaceful demonstration aimed at convincing Target to join other large retailers in phasing out products made with PVC, or polyvinyl chloride, and switching to less-toxic alternatives. PVC products pose environmental and health hazards during manufacturing (dioxin byproducts) and consumer use (phthalates, etc.).

The Center for Health, Environment and Justice will provide materials, such as flyers, posters, signs and "a set of colorful hazmat suits" free of charge to participating groups. Protesters will meet in front of the Target store; if asked to leave, we will try to move to a spot on the right-of-way near the entrance to the shopping center, pending assembly permit approval.
Geographical Scope: Metro
