Description
Hosted by DePaul University’s Steans Center, CGDN invites high school/university students who read the headlines and want to change the world to come and explore practical effective ways to get involved in the critical international issues of our day. With Mark Hanis of Genocide Intervention Network and Rich Rutschman of the Chicago Teachers Center.

When he was a senior at Swarthmore College, Mark Hanis began to mobilize students and legislators across the US in an effort to end genocide in Darfur, Sudan. Impelled by his family’s history of surviving the Holocaust, Hanis and a group of students launched the Genocide Intervention Network (GI-Net) with five members of Congress and almost 400 students representing 42 states. Its mission is to empower global citizens with the tools to advance initiatives that prevent and stop genocide.
Since its founding, GI-Net has raised over $250,000 from
grassroots efforts and plans to use the donations to train and
recruit female African civilian police to focus on gender-based
violence in Darfur. GI-Net also empowers citizens through
education and advocacy, and is now building the first permanent
anti-genocide constituency to foster the necessary political will to prevent and stop genocide.

EVERYONE WANTS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. LEARN HOW YOU CAN ENSURE THAT YOU ARE GETTING THE MOST OUT OF EVERY ACTION.

Come and explore how you can become involved with international issues. The Chicago Global Donors Network will help you break down global problems into manageable, practical solutions. Participants will also learn how to maximize their leverage, that is, how public awareness combined with political action and fundraising can change the world.
