United StatesThe eighth annual SURGE Conference will be held at Duke University on March 30 - April 1, 2007. This year's conference will focus on a variety of environmental, social justice and economic justice issues. Friday evening will kickoff with keynote speaker Mary Anne Hitt of Appalachian Voices at the Love Audoritorium, and Saturday/Sunday will include a wide selection of workshops and panels plus skills and strategy sessions. More details coming soon!
We are currently working with a group of Duke students and staff members to secure space at the Levine Science Research Center for the event and arrange for speakers and workshop panelists. If you have ideas on workshop topics and/or keynote speakers you would like to see this year, please let us know. Our next planning meeting will be held on Feb 9 @ 8:45am at the Perkins Library Cafe - please come if you're a student or community member interested in helping.
If you are a member of a student group or nonprofit organization that would like to display at our conference, please contact Alison Carpenter at 919-960-6886. Conference sponsors and SURGE affiliates/partners will receive top priority as we arrange for vendor/informational displays.
