(Facilitator: Nuclear Age Peace Foundation ) Nearly all of the nuclear weapons in the U.S. arsenal have been researched and developed at the Lawrence Livermore and Los Alamos National Laboratories, which are owned by the Department of Defense but managed by the University of California (UC). This relationship spans 60 years. The UC Nuclear Free campaign seeks to end UC's role in developing nuclear weapons. This campaign stands on the shoulders of a long history of global mobilization toward effective international multi-lateral control of nuclear weapons technolocy and materials. UC Nuclear Free honors this legacy by providing opportunities for younger generations to debate pressing human rights issues, take a stand, and affect change.Geographical Scope: Regional Added on 09-08-2004 Updated on 01-27-2006 |
