United StatesTranscending Boundaries, Inc. hosts an annual community conference to celebrate the diversity of gender, sex, sexuality and relationships. Exploring the entire spectrum of the queer acronym, the Transcending Boundaries Conference presents a variety of workshops, lectures and entertainment. From Transgender to Intersex to Genderqueer, from Asexual to Bisexual, from Kinky to Polyamorous, and all the in-betweens, we discover we are not one facet on a single continuum, but the combination of characteristics in a complex identity. We welcome everyone to attend, including friends, families, allies and professionals who want to support the queer community.
The eighth Transcending Boundaries Conference is being held this year in Springfield, MA at the Mass Mutual Center November 11th through the 13th. We are still in the initial planning stage, but the weekend will include workshops, socializing, entertainment and more. We are thrilled to announce this year's keynote speaker is author, performance artist and gender theorist Kate Bornstein, author of "101 Alternatives to Suicide for Teens, Freaks and Other Outlaws".
Aside from a speech from Kate, the Saturday plenary luncheon includes the opportunity for us all to join together, socialize, share stories and break bread with others from all over the northeast and beyond. This is the heart of the conference, the moment we join together, with our diverse identities, and enjoy in a common meal together. We welcome you to share your stories and what is happening in your community during the community discussion.
This year's theme will be "Beyond Binary". Male/Female, Straight/Gay or Lesbian, Man /Woman, Committed/Single, in a world of either-or's, where do those of us that don't quite belong in one category or the other fit? Gender, sex, orientation, relationships and identities don't always meet the definitions society gives us, but that doesn't mean they are any less valid.
