United StatesMission: The Social Justice Leadership Conference (SJLC) is a collaborative effort which provides a space for students, student groups, community members, alumni, faculty, and staff to discuss social justice and to learn and refine leadership skills. SJLC seeks to empower its participants to create change by applying the skills and knowledge acquired during the conference.
Students, student groups, alumni, community members, faculty and staff facilitate sessions in their area of interest or expertise. Sessions focus on leadership skills that may be applied to any social movement and on the many manifestations of injustice and how participants can be involved in creating change. SJLC provides participants with resources and opportunities for engagement on campus, in Middletown, in Connecticut and across the globe.
This year, Wesleyan is collaborating with the Connecticut Campus Compact and inviting students from institutions across the state to present and attend the SJLC. Our conference theme is Unmasking Social Change.
The conference will take place on Saturday, October 31, 2015 from 9am to 4:30pm. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided for all attendees.
The one-day conference seeks to create a dedicated space and platform for students who are committed to community service, civic engagement, social justice and social change. The theme of Unmasking Social Change is designed to provide a framework where students examine their motivations for social justice and service, enhance their understanding of social issues, and increase their capacity and skills to positively impact their campus and community.
